BACK TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Today is August 08, 2007 and it's our second day of duty for the geriatric care. We went to the Home for the Aged this morning at exactly 5:15 AM. Pheeeww!! I really had a hard time opening up my eyes this morning when my mom woke me up at 4:00 AM. Gee!!~~ Then me and my classmates met up at the school gate and we ran all the way to the lobby since during the pre-conference we agreed that the last person to come to school on this day would be the one who will clean the comfort room and the bedside commodes of the elderlies. Haha!! It was really funny!
When we arrived there, we assisted the elderlies with their morning bath sessions. My patient was a 60-year-old pure Chinese "Lola" named Roseta Chan. As I was assessing her, I've found out that she came from a very rich Chinese family. Unfortunately, she lost her parents and siblings in a fire that left her all alone with her older brother. It was really sad and the staffs told me that I shouldn't let her speak for too long since she has this tendency of over-talking at night and she may have nervous breakdown if she can recall the past. Huhuhu...T^T It was really sad to hear it.
During our exposure there, there are a lot of things about life that I realized. Like this certain "Lolo", one side of his body is paralyzed and no one even bothered to assist him the whole time we were there. Me, the soft-hearted me, went up to him and assisted him until he felt ok. I can always imagine stuffs like "what if my parents are in a home for the aged care center and nobody would even dare to take care of them?" It's really sad in some way. They're parents too and the thought of them sacrificing for their children but they never even dared to show care and love to their parents in return is too annoying for my part. It's soooooo unfair! Even if they're old, they may have the tendency to be senile or useless in some ways but they're still worth your love and care. They deserve to be loved and cherished all the time since they made us feel that kind of stuffs way back before. A little love and appreciation won't hurt anyway, right?
